The Kyoto protocol is one of the numerous international treaties that aim to reduce the impact of climate change, particularly global warming. The plan is for countries like the United States of America to embrace the Kyoto protocol to minimize the rate of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Under the treaty in question, all industrialized country members like the USA propose cutting their emissions of varying carbon amounts yearly (Kumazawa & Callaghan, 2012, pg. 202). One of the countries that agree with the argument that the treaty has to lessen the emission of carbon dioxide and the greenhouse effect is the USA. However, there have been cons and pros to the plan since 2005. Kyoto protocol aims to shrink the harmful gases to the extent that it shall block the harmful anthropogenic holdups with the climate system.
The essential advantage of the retreat is that it reduces the impacts of climate change in the United States of America. The USA has settled for participation in the treaty. It has so far cut the greenhouse gas emission in the country and other gases such as Sulphur dioxide, nitrous dioxide, methane, and perfluorocarbons by 5.2%. Secondly, it shows that the USA is a collaborative country that can contribute to conserving the environment (Conti et al., 2012, pg. 170). Human beings are solely responsible for climate change through their activities. Therefore, they should save it. The agreement to join the treaty not only brands the United States of America as a responsible country but that they can collaborate with others to make the world a better place. In which the Kyoto protocol is established after an agreement with at least 55 parties to reduce and control the emission of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases. Third is that it has promoted innovation and inventions in the industrial sector in that people come up with ideas and machinery to minimize the carbon dioxide and greenhouse during production, thus ranking America highly in a global scale.
The chief disadvantage of the American retreat to Kyoto the plan is associated with serious issues that America had to handle. The government spends a lot of money from the taxpayers` share to create public awareness on the issue so that industries and people reduce the emission of harmful gases. A lot of time is spent on ensuring compliance by the private and public enterprises. For example, if the cleanup does not work for the public,, it is considered negative. Secondly, the plan to join the Kyoto protocol is disadvantageous to America in the outlook that there is poor implementation of the protocol to benefit the citizens (Kutney, 2014, pg.1). In as many as there are 55 parties who sign the agreement, the benefit is little. Countries like China and India barely make an effort to curb pollution; thus, the plan becomes ineffective. Therefore, the USA will be spending a lot of resources, but the output is minimal.
Conclusively, the Kyoto protocol is a noble initiative to ensure that industrialized countries like the USA and China cut the amounts of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. It is a noble act to control climate change and its effects like global warming (Kumazawa & Callaghan, 2012, pg. 202). Some of the advantages of the retreat include reducing emissions and collaboration as a country or inclusiveness. Disadvantages include more expenses in civic education and poor implementation of the Kyoto Protocol.
