Although its terminology has changed, for example, internet entrepreneurship, e-entrepreneurship, and techno-entrepreneurship, the industry goes back to the early Web era when internet platforms first enabled scalable digital business models. Meta-entrepreneurship extends beyond economic value, encompassing influences on digital culture, social interaction modes, and the shaping of virtual ecosystems. These distinctions establish metaverse entrepreneurship as a novel entrepreneurial paradigm (Siau, K. et al., 2024).  In today’s tech driven world, AI startups leveraging metaverse platforms represent a new wave of digital ventures opportunities at the intersection of cutting-edge technologies.

Risks and Ethical Considerations

AI systems trained on real-world data may amplify social biases, and although AI has came a long way from where it first started, AI may still have some flaws in the collected data from social biases and might generate discriminatory content that can stem from discriminatory stereotypes. Additionally, there are risks and ethical issues that can arise from the difficulty of enforcing copyrights and trademarks in a virtual world since they can be copied or AI might generate content that is copyrighted data that has been imputed by other users.


Another issue can stem from unethical usage of AI and the over dependency of such technology. To navigate concerns around user dependency on this technology, it is suggested to view ChatGPT not as a sole decision-making entity but rather as a knowledge collaborator. Entrepreneurs should utilize ChatGPT outputs as hypotheses, providing directions for further investigation, verification, and validation from diverse knowledge sources (Gupta, V., 2022). Going beyond ethical considerations in the workforce, there can also be ethical concerns in universities with students over relying on AI, and job seekers using AI tools to apply to hundreds of job positions while simultaneously updating their resume and cover letter to match the hundred of job descriptions they are applying for, and answering interview questions using such technology.


Skills and Workforce Readiness

A critical theme in the literature is the skills gap for integrating AI and metaverse technologies. AI and extended reality require specialized expertise. There may be a risk of a mismatch between the skills that employers require and the skills that employees have. Therefore, some startups might have a hard time finding engineers versed in both immersive technologies and AI, since most virtual reality developers and artificial intelligence engineers still work in separate talent pools. Entrepreneurship education has a positive impact on students' motivation towards digital academic entrepreneurship, which can help them overcome administrative constraints hindering the development of sustainable student startups (Sitaridis, I. et al., 2024). There seems to be an increase in AI courses and educational programs that teach beginners the essential elements in the new AI and VR industry, but these programs have not yet yielded a large ready workforce. Additionally, an issue that should be considered is the mental well-being of virtual teams and how a digital workforce that is not present in a physical office might relate to feeling lonely, or will the virtual collaboration be enough to feel connected? Studies have underscored VR's perception as an isolating technology, highlighting fears of isolation among potential users (Slivkin, N. et al., 2025).


Going beyond technical skills, businesses then should cultivate a team culture that understands human-AI teaming. Workers might be resistant AI if they fear their jobs will be replaced by the very tool they are implementing. To mitigate this risk company’s should address this gap by providing education on AI ethics, data privacy, and the collaboration of humans and AI. Bridging this gap may require efforts in education, training, and inclusive hiring, which remain future challenges.


Trends in AI-Integrated Startups and Digital Operations

AI is widely used for various purposes, and these purposes will expand as AI advances. For example, Meitu (a start-up) offers an app that makes people look more beautiful in selfies; and Dataminr (another start-up) helps companies make better marketing and stock market decisions (Shepherd, D. et al., 2022). The shift to remote work after COVID and the emerging technologies that encourage digital nomads should encourage startups to create collaborative metaverse platforms in order to cater to the new work force talent. Employees may leave an organization precisely because her employer neglects her ideas—acquisitions are increasingly common organizational events that outright reassign employees to a new employer (Kim, J. et al., 2022). Hence, a business needs to be aware that their employees need to feel purposeful and be able to contribute, even if they are working remotely an organization should make them feel included in the business operations decision making to ensure they retain top talent.


Immersive virtual offices and meeting rooms are now becoming an emerging trend but still not widely used. With an increase in remote work tools, and virtual collaboration platforms, businesses can take the digital entrepreneur can exploit such opportunity to creating immersive environments where employees can collaborate seamlessly in virtual office settings. These solutions can help to redefine productivity and could become standard parts of digital operations in the next decade. Hence, The startups that become successful in today's modern world will be those that harness AI’s strengths while carefully managing the technical and ethical risks outlined above.

Future research is needed to address both theoretical gaps and practical uncertainties Some future questions include:

What laws and policies can protect creators while still allowing for innovation?

Which skills are most essential to learn, and how can universities adapt?

In conclusion, Crucial gaps exist in understanding how to empower entrepreneurs with these modern technologies and how to govern them responsibly. Addressing these future questions will be important in order for AI-driven businesses to fully leverage the opportunities in the metaverse and the implementation of AI.
